Terms of Use

1. Who we are; acceptance

These terms are an agreement between you and Mara Nóbrega, a language teacher on Madeira Island, Portugal ("Mara", "we"), and govern your use of www.mara-pt.com and the study app at app.mara-pt.com (the "Service"). By using the Service you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. You must be at least 13 years old.

2. The Service

The app is a spaced-repetition study tool (cards, lessons, and drills) that accompanies Mara's Portuguese classes. It is free for enrolled students: there are no purchases or subscriptions inside the app.

The classes themselves — prices, scheduling, cancellations, and refunds — are arranged directly with Mara and governed by the conditions published at /policies.

3. Your account

Accounts are created by your teacher for enrolled students — there is no public signup. Your account is personal and non-transferable: keep access to your email secure and don't share the account. Tell us if you suspect unauthorised use.

4. Acceptable use

• Don't use the Service for unlawful purposes.
• Don't try to access other students' data or circumvent security protections, limits, or access controls.
• Don't overload the Service (mass automated requests, scraping).
• Don't copy, publish, or redistribute the course materials beyond your personal study.

In cases of abuse we may suspend or remove the account; where practical and lawful, we let you export your data first.

5. Course materials and intellectual property

The course materials (lessons, cards, drills, texts) and the software belong to Mara or her licensors. You have a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them for your own study. The data you enter remains yours.

6. Availability; end of service

The Service is provided free of charge, "as is". We aim to keep it available and working well, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted operation, and we may change or improve features over time. If the Service is ever discontinued, we will give reasonable advance notice and you can request a copy of your data before it is deleted (see the Privacy Policy).

7. End of access

Access to the app follows class enrolment: when you stop being a student, the account may be closed. You can also ask for your account to be closed and your data deleted at any time.

8. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages arising from the use of a free service provided "as is". Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.

9. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Portuguese law, and the Portuguese courts have jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules.

Alternative resolution of consumer disputes (Portuguese Law 144/2015): you may turn to CNIACC — Centro Nacional de Informação e Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo (cniacc.pt); the full list of ADR entities is at consumidor.pt. The electronic complaints book (Livro de Reclamações Eletrónico) is available at livroreclamacoes.pt. These mechanisms are voluntary and do not limit your right to go to court.
